Welcome to Desire Path, a wandering newsletter about wanting. You’ll receive monthly essays on the wills and won’ts of desire and how it compels us. ··· This newsletter is dedicated to desire because I don't think this compulsion gets the press it deserves, good or bad. It'll be mostly good in this spot, though. Like flipping a coin in the air and secretly hoping for one side to show itself as the result. This is a community space, so be mindful in the comments. Please also note that I’m not a professional writer or scholar. I started this to develop my writing skills—in a medium somewhere between short stories and poetry—and connect with others. A little luxuriating for me, I know, but I hope the topics I raise can inform decisions and/or validate desires in your life too. I aim for the images in my posts to be original, aka shot myself, because I'm a photographer de facto. However, this isn’t a hard and fast rule or a box I want to trap myself in. You can expect the writing and images to be original 99% of the time. (Well, nothing is ever original.)
P.S. A desire path is “an unplanned small trail created as a consequence of mechanical erosion caused by human or animal traffic. The path usually represents the shortest or the most easily navigated route between an origin and a destination.” (Wikipedia) Paths we create by our own resistance. Paths woven from desire. That is the namesake of this newsletter.
